Jane comissioned this piece for the re-release of a number of older pieces
of hers- hence the "Remains". She liked the idea of people being
gone while the dinosaurs remained. I took the liberties of having the instruments
be almost undamaged (you know, that whole idea that music never dies) while
the skull is still grinning. Dr. Jane claims the skull really looks like her
(and then proceeded to identify all the bones by name in the painting). And
frankly, I did refer to a photo of her grinning to try to get the teeth similar,
but the skull is a model that sits in my art area with a coonskin hat on.
